Biography of Ira Sankey

Ira Sankey was an American gospel singer and composer who became known as the singing evangelist. His warm voice and memorable melodies helped spread gospel music across the United States and beyond. He played a key role in popularizing hymns during large revival campaigns.

His hymns and tunes include Faith Is the Victory and The Ninety and Nine. His musical leadership helped shape the sound of American evangelical worship.

Sankey collaborated closely with evangelist Dwight Moody and worked with many gospel writers and composers of his era.
