Biography of Oral Roberts

Oral Roberts was a Pentecostal healing evangelist who became one of the first major televangelists in the United States. Beginning with tent meetings, he moved into radio and then television, bringing healing services into homes across the nation. His ministry later included a university and large building projects that drew both support and criticism.

Roberts major works included his televised healing crusades and the Oral Roberts television program, which popularized the idea of televised revival meetings. Fundraising appeals and some claims of visions and financial urgency drew controversy, but his media presence helped define early televangelism.
