Biography of Philip Bliss

Philip Bliss was an American gospel singer, composer, and evangelist whose music played a major role in nineteenth century revival movements. His energetic melodies and heartfelt texts helped shape the sound of American gospel hymnody.

His hymns include Hallelujah What a Savior, Wonderful Words of Life, and the tune for It Is Well with My Soul. His music became widely used in revival meetings and church services.

Bliss collaborated with evangelists such as Dwight Moody and Ira Sankey, contributing music that supported their ministry efforts.
