Biography of Reginald Heber

Reginald Heber was an Anglican priest and later Bishop of Calcutta whose hymns combined poetic elegance with theological clarity. He sought to enrich parish worship by providing hymns for various seasons and occasions within the church year.

His hymns include Holy Holy Holy, Brightest and Best, and From Greenlands Icy Mountains. These hymns became widely used in Anglican and other Protestant traditions.

Heber worked with clergy who supported the expansion of hymn singing in parish worship and helped promote the use of hymns throughout the liturgical year.
