Biography of William Carey

William Carey was an English missionary often called the father of modern missions. He served in India for decades, translating scripture, promoting education, and advocating for social reform.

Carey translated hymns into Bengali and other local languages and helped produce early Indian hymnbooks. He encouraged indigenous worship practices and supported the development of local Christian music.

He collaborated with Indian scholars, fellow missionaries, and the Serampore Trio who worked with him on translation and education projects.
